So discovered that there is All Ships Week (October 20-26), and I'm not sure if I'm going to participate in it or not yet because who knows what my work schedule will be but I'm very tempted to do so. If I do participate, I think I'm going to use some small fandom pairings since I'm tempted to try the [community profile] smallfandombang, but I don't think I have it in me to write an actual 10k+ word fic.

Pairings I've been thinking of doing is Sabrina/Harvey (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Tyler/Wednesday (Wednesday), Nick/Adalind (Grimm), Nathan/Annalise/Gabriel (TBSTDH), Michael/Liz (Roswell), Hayley/Wheezer (SkyMed), Larson/Heller (Doc -new ship/show alert!-), and Dani/Lito/Hernando (Sense8). Probably a few others I can't think of right now...

As my gift for the [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles exchange, TheMistyDarkPrincess wrote Conflicting Affections, a series of ficlets that focused on Elias and Jon (with bonus Martin) from The Magnus Archives. I have yet to get tired of reading about Elias being possessive of his Archivist.

[community profile] fandomgiftbasket is open through October 11. Check out the master list of requests and see if you're inspired to create a fannish gift for somebody!

Yuletide Nominations

I'm sorry, I still haven't really tried catching up properly, and next my parents will be here for a week, although that may actually not stop me posting some things.

Anyway, it's nearly [community profile] yuletide again! I'm not at all sure whether I shall be able to do it or not, but it's looking more likely than I thought, so I have had to consider the important issue of nominations.

Other people have nominated Welcome to Our Village Please Invade Carefully and The Winslow Boy, so my 5 (five!!) are looking like this:

* Enigma (Movie 2001)
1. Hester Wallace
2. Tom Jericho
3. Mr Wigram

* Indigo Saga - Louise Cooper
1. Indigo
2. Grimya
3. Nemesis
4. Fenran

* Mimic (1997)
1. Susan Tyler
2. Peter Mann
3. Chuy Gavoila

* Time Police Series - Jodi Taylor
1. Jane Lockland
2. Luke Parrish
3. Celia North
4. Matthew Ellis

* Wish Me Luck (TV)
1. Matty Firman
2. Colin Beale
3. Liz Grainger
4. Faith Ashley

I was VERY tempted to put down The Schoolmistress (BBC Radio 1991) but I decided that I shouldn't make my Jeremy Northam problem quite as bad as all that. Maybe next time! (Also because I'm not sure what I would request beyond "more shenanigans," really). I might swap out Mimic, though, idk. (I think it would be a great one for the Hurt/Comfort exchange or maybe Chocolate Box because I want a v specific thing (not an unreasonable specific thing), but OTOH I do not seem to be managing more than Yuletide, if even that, at the moment. Hmmm.

I don't know what I'll actually request if I do sign up, as there look like being a fair few other shiny things in the tagset already, just from the nomination coordination post. \o/

It was on a Monday, April second—I was cruising in the vicinity of Betelgeuse—when a meteor no larger than a lima bean pierced the hull, shattered the drive regulator and part of the rudder, as a result of which the rocket lost all maneuverability.

Title: The myrtle and the rose
Fandom: Lord of the Mysteries
Character/Pairing(s): Klein Moretti & Leonard Mitchell
Rating: PG
Warning: spoilers to the epilogue
Summary: Five times Klein encountered Leonard's poetry (and one time it reached him).

“You know,” Rosanne said thoughtfully, “Leonard is sometimes so eloquent and poetic in speech. If he just wrote down some of what he says, I think he’d actually be a decent poet.” )

Tuesday Top Five: Fall Bucket List

Although I’m always a little bit sad to see summer ending, I adore fall just as much! Here are some of my goals for the season.

1. Bake an apple pie! (I like pumpkin fine as an ingredient, but apples are my Autumnal Produce of Choice.)

2. Take a walk or have a picnic in a park while the leaves change!

3. Mend at least one of my sweaters!

4. Curate my wardrobe for Spooky Season, including a pair of wrist gauntlets that I hope to make out of a Halloween-themed fabric swatch! (I’m pretty sure that my former supervisor in the Children’s Room had a different Halloween-themed outfit for every day of October, which is a level of commitment to which I can only aspire, especially since I don’t like to spend too much money on clothing items that I only wear once a year. But if I get creative, perhaps I can manage two or three per week!)

5. Reread some of my favorite campus novels and spooky books, including The Secret History, Tam Lin, The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, and Mexican Gothic. (I also have a separate and rapidly growing horror TBR list, which might be the subject of a future post.)

What do you love about fall?

Meme > Top 100 Books

Meme came from like LJ 2008 era by [personal profile] revivingophelia so I don't know if this list is accurate anymore but whatever.

The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.

Did I read most of the above for school? Yes, yes I did... except for Harry Potter, Da Vinci Code & Jane Austen stuff, that was for pleasure. But technically I've read more than 6, but just barely - yay me?

[personal profile] letzan posted about recent "high velocity f/f fandoms":

I want to shine an occasional spotlight on fandoms that are in flux. There are two kinds of fandoms here:

  • Fandoms that are growing rapidly, which are typically not in the top 20 now, and may never get there, but might be interesting for F/F readers to check out and encourage.

  • Fandoms that are losing ground on the top 20, and seem to be "post-peak." They may well peak again in the future, but it's a good moment to look back at the impressive amount of F/F which has been written so far.

There were some real surprises (to me) in both the list of femslash fandoms that are growing over the last 3 months, and those "losing ground." [personal profile] letzan is also soliciting femslash recs for all of the fandoms listed in the post!

Take a peek for yourself.
